delirium

delirium

A Poem by Kara Emily Krantz

when the nightsongs drift to me
over balmy tropic winds
i breathe in deeply of music
and exhale the sweet, salty measures
of time.

you once touched me
in the secret hours
of the night
and stirred symphonies
upon the salt
of my skin.

i sit here tonight
and shiver at the tendency
of my delicate heart
to clutch at
your memory.

the wind is gentle
and possesses a playful lure
i taste the palm trees
in the air
- i glance down at my hand-
and want your fingers there.

the nightsongs are passionate
and stir my secret soul
to dream
[it is all so much more]
so much more than it seems.

this silly life and this
humid night
and the blurry truths
in the corners of
my sight.

so i close my eyes
and let the music caress
my skin
[the wind is my lover]
but you are my sin.

i sit here tonight
and shiver at the tendency
of my delicate heart
to clutch at
your memory

the air is tight
(compressed with anticipation)
and the world is humid
- saturated with something sweet -
but all i feel
is this heat
[this heat]

the delirious heat
of memory.

--I love this stanza...this is me in a nutshell, you know! lol

There is a sweet, questioning nature in this piece, which makes it not only humble, but delicately beautiful as well. There are also so many references to the beautiful "tropic" culture that I so adore, which makes this piece a winner in my book! Great imagery, many sensory delights and a wonderful flow...you've hit the mark with this one, I wouldn't change a thing.

Nice work!

Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed it immensely. Very intimate. I like how you weave the ideas of physical heat and other stimuli in with the pain of memory. Very nice. Makes me ache inside.
