Life

A Poem by Mae Arrowood

The first creased page crafted with subtle transcendence,
inspired a worry line naive of truths horrendous,
enveloped in a surrealistic delve, plunging into freezing water,
dizzily drifting into sensation, reeling in the fire that brought her.

A tale read a million times, the mirroring metamorphosis set,
blistering nostalgia, lacquer on the lake,
the chronic fear of getting wet.
Sinking stones on a page, the hope to go before sinking,
the stones soon knew they would never be found,
making this insignificant thinking.

On and on the sadness struck, never leaving the question of when,
I must be such a foolish girl,
for I would read that book again.
Sunshine haze, bringing a daze, changing words into voices,
laughing or crying, living or dying,
these are among the only choices.

This treasured book from far and wide, has yet to be a classic,
but in tensions here and fears to come, it's bound to be dynastic.
