You do not know what I am going through

You do not know what I am going through

A Poem by Sara Elyse Abrams

You say “I know what you are going through”.

Well,

You do not.

Do you know the feeling of loneliness that consumes you after you realize that you do not have any real friends?

Do you know how it feels to have your entire education depend on if you have good wifi?

Do you know the tears that roll down your face every time you turn on the news and see that the death rate tripled because of a pandemic.

Do you know how it feels to be powerless while the world goes up in flames and all you can do is watch?

Do you know how it feels to have given up on trying because you have given up waiting for a future that will never come?

Do you know the feeling of all of your hope and optimism slowly being ripped away from you,

Peace by peace,

Every time you find out that school is canceled?

No,

You do not,

And not for a single second can you even utter the words “I know what you are going through”,

Because you do not have a single clue about what we are going through.

So,

Never for a moment think you know what I am going through,

Because you do not know what I am going through.
