His Requiem for Maria

A reply to RC Vagilidad's "A Requiem for Maria"

 

 

The faint light I radiated

was eclipsed by the shadows

of the sky’s cold, vast haze.

 

Underneath the rays of Gemini

I sang of sighs and memories

and danced my last ballet.

 

There, I held my last breath

but he never ceased to play

that lingering refrain.

 

The song I loved began to fade.

His requiem for me,

he flawlessly played

 

and I was free...

 

His Maria.

Wow...this was outstanding! I have not read the other piece first, but I certainly will now. This was just so beautifully written!!! I adored everything about this poem, the imagery the wording and the flow. It was very sad, yet it felt like there was relief because the girl was set free in the end after all her dancing. While I havent read the other piece...this stands well on it's own. To me, it comes off as a spring love, to only be lost in the winter...kind of like the Persephone and Hades deal...
