They Don't just Fight

They Don't just Fight

Tears stream down from both eyes

Loud noises filled the air

Men and women saying good bye

Holding on tight

Dont let go!

Dressed in Camo they stand

In a line so straight

Hands held high against their heads

The gun shots that no one hear

But the blood shed is everywhere

The loud tears and the graves

For a war they fight

Dieing for a freedom that they will never see

Living for one that only disappears slowly

Raising flags and freeing others

Teaching others to live with out fear

Soliders dont just fight

they teach, learn, build, and live

Dont just support for our freedom, but for others as well

they deserve to have what we have too..

some wont take it but others will embrace it, never letting it go

Oh Great work !! These are the kinds of poems which should be written again and again and yet it may not be enough. We think of the futility of the wars. We think of the people we lost in Ancient Crusades or the recent World wars or any F***** war mankind has fought and what not. Most of them do not even know why they were fighting in the first place. The objectives are vague, humans become insects where they could be trampled anytime without a prerogative. Its so unjustified yet it is so common. I think works such as yours re-emphasizes on the conviction of not fighting and living normal lives. Soldiers should live those simple lives, going to the grocery, Sunday Picnic and Friday pubs. Let them do that. Thank you Shantelle. I really appreciate your theme and its very well written too. Poignant and balanced. Great..........I loved it

Wow, I really connected with this. Especially because in 6 months, I'll be off to basic training and then tech school. Thank you for supporting those of us who choose this lifestyle. I know we all, and I mean ALL, appreciate it.

Since when did the average American become fodder for wars half way around the world decided upon, not by our government, but by those with the real power that sit behind the worlds' governments? I'd guess around 1946-1950, when a few people stepped into the power vacuum and have held it ever since. Unconscionable, inhuman, and worthy of eradication.

Very heart wrenching poem. If everyone could look at it that way we would be better off in our world. You've laid out a very neat perspective on war and soldiers. Thanks for sharing.

This would sound so amazing as a song. Wonderful poem, and picture.

Very touching write! I love how you brought the liberty, in which we have earned through blood, sweat, and tears in the spotlight. It makes me feel very honorable that I have such liberties as I do today. Great write!

Very well put together, great write.

that's true... soldiers are there for protection and support, not for killing... unfortunately they are more often used for the latter...

well written poem, though I have never found much sense in wars to glorify; the play writes , the directors, the actors, and the audience.
