Once Upon A Time

Once Upon A Time

A Poem by Michael G. Smith
"

A prayer remembered that led me to my wife

"

Raised on literary romance and
All those "Once upon a times"
Happily ever after fairy tales
Those silly notions through innocent eyes

But then life's brutality
In love makes you bleed
One after another
Lies of promised "love you forever" leaves

Until just a little faith, I prayed
"Lord, please choose her for me"
I thanked God for modern miracles
Which now I know will never cease

And for you, His answer standing there
Who would of thought a man could
Fall in love, every single day
More and more, again and again

And at night, every now and then
I turn, pinch myself and blink my eyes
As He whispers words across my mind
"Once upon a time"
