Away From God

Away From God

A Poem by Michael G. Smith
"

That we are the ones who distance ourselves from god

"

God where might I find thee

Underneath an unturned stone

Lord, how might I know thee

Why am I he who is all alone

When thee wilst not acknowledge

Is it because I still embrace what's sin

So what if I refuse thy atonement

Does that mean thou wilt not forgive

Christ, who am I

The shell; hollowness without thy ghost

Wandering within the thickset forest

Off the path into another darkness lost

Thou wilst not speak

I wilst not pray

Thus, my soul is stagnant entangle

In decline goes astray

Harder hearts evermore unwilling

Then to do thy simple loving will

With own terms in goals as I continue

And drift I do, away from thee futher still

Sometimes the rage and the guilt can carry us so far from grace. This piece illustrated this so profoundly. I am always awonder when I hear of religious purveyors deal so in fire and brimstone; it can only deliver us further from bliss. This was a fantastic write, Mike.

Yes, Christ taught with love not fear.
The struggle to believe and do the right thing well told.

I try to be a storyteller. Thanks.
The very essence of in is that we turn our hearts from God. Human beings are so willful. This is a strong piece that shows faith and human nature colliding.

This is an excellent poem and describes so clearly a wretchedly troubled soul. You know where to turn but the human heart is so stubborn as it clings to self-will. I found it interesting that you used old English which I find gives this poem a depth of quality modern English would not...a deeply moving poem of lamentation.
