Marshmellows In Hot Chocolate

Marshmellows In Hot Chocolate

A Poem by Michael G. Smith
"

Looking for answers in the wrong places

"

Into my dark mug I glare
Do I believe, what tea leaves heed
Like scrambled eggs on top of wheat
Merely remnants of... a beast I chose to eat

And still I stare
Once again there's no message here
Hidden, nor anywhere
I guess it's just what I choose to see

The solid facts which lie before me
Are that, I asked for rye
And more specifically over easy
Now, that’s the true conspiracy

And wait a darn minute!
That’s why the fates deny revelation
No leaves, no signs, nothing, but blank slates
White marshmallows in hot chocolate bobbing, mocking

One of my favorite snacks. :) And hey, I didn't know such inspired you to write this poem filled with life's insights. All I can think of when there's food before me is food, food, food. :) Next time, I eat, I'll try to ponder upon the depths of human existence. ;)

Lol. Tell me next time. :)
Like seeing Jesus in a grilled cheese sandwich, we look for answers in our breakfast treats... I like this, Mike -a unique take on this type of philosophy.

I liked this slice of life slash philosophical write. I had a convo about tea reading with a friend not too long ago, interesting serendipity.

Intriguing... I never would have thought of this type of topic - yet, you drew me in to continue reading and I found it very entertaining and possibly thought provoking. Nicely done.

I love rye. Pastrami, swiss on dark rye with horseradish my favorite. Thanks Rose.
I think we eat breakfast at the same restaurant. This is a delightfully fun read. Very good poem, very well written.

if it's IHOP but, prefer the wife's cooking over anything else. Thanks.
Very light hearted and fun poem. Sometimes we do look for meaning in obscure places other times the answers are right under our noses. Well done.
