A Melting Candle Sits...

A Melting Candle Sits...

A Poem by Michael G. Smith
"

Analogy of love waiting like a melting candle.

"

A beacon candle melts out upon my open sill

Sits as man waiting burning statue still

A refuge within through and through

What breaks the twilight of yonder swill

Pierces burnt dark black ever night

And in proxy cries beside the fiery light

A time to oft enflames the mind

Against life’s odds and winds it fights

The wax it softens flowing piling thicker

Becomes molten liquid then ardent hard

As drips, drops of life go further on much quicker

Into days of hours turning to harden hearts

Half lit shadows contend to stir

Across nebulous thoughts of innumerous sorts

And where a solemn figure sits conjectures

Contemplating return of love's visage torts

Hope so soon is savor gone in one last of flickers worth

With reunion memories further down into waning years

Flat the candle’s wax lays spread across an earth

And crushed hearts too in tomorrow's search
