Save My Soul Tonight

Save My Soul Tonight

A Poem by Michael G. Smith
"

Overcoming earthly pleasures

"

Angels heaven sent I plead

Please, hold onto me ever tighter

Save my soul and don’t let go

That I may not fall even further

I understand thou shan’t lift me up

Or homeward higher carry me

The chains of justice do burden heavily

But where does mercy be

If here I could simply stay

For a season more

Upon this plane

To find the strength beyond forlorn

I could hold onto forever

Endure with increased measure

Make recompense

Forsake earthly pleasures

Tis I would do

Angels heaven sent

Please don’t let go…

Although I feel love

It’s still slipping

This is great. I really loved the first stanza in particular - I thought it was the stand-out part of the poem.

Thank you. Lilly.
Earthly pleasures... a gift and a curse in equal measure. Our angels can only watch and pray as we exercise free will - for better or worse... Thank God for mercy!

Yes, that great gift of free will. These are the choices that builds our mansion.
