It's strange how one could feel this way in a happy world. . .So short but so vivid. . .enjoyed it

I would like to pose a question that I asked my wife this morning to which I'm still researching the answer. Is joy a higher state of happiness? Are there degrees of happiness?

I think that joy may be longer lasting and happiness comes and goes. . . I remember many years ago when I was depressed that I didn't feel happy but I knew that the joys in my life would never go away. For instance when my children were born I felt the most joy imaginable and that will never go away. When I was depressed, I knew that it was a matter of unknown time that I would feel better. I must say, however, that it is hard on the spirit to know that happiness is within reach but you just can't reach it. . .very thoughtful poem. . .be well

I always thought melancholy just sound to good to mean sadness. The English language so diverse like our country.
