The Battle of the Seasons

The Battle of the Seasons

A Poem by Alix

Mother Summer gives way to Father Fall
they hug and kiss and bid each other adieu
night time comes and Mother Summer slips on her shawl
She turns to leave and off she goes into blue

Father Fall settles in and begins to makes the change
from all the chartreuse greens
to the colorful oranges, and browns, and other colors so strange
He gives them each a new color
and promises them their colors again
once Sister Spring comes too holler

Brother Winter wants his time
to make his own alterations
He fights his elder brother and wartime
comes between the seasons
but Mother Summer and Sister Spring
refuse to join the ranks

Brother Winter frosts all the lively plants
Father Fall fights back with a cool but warm blast of air
A victory! For Father Fall has melted away Brother Winter's icy frost.
But Brother Winter is not done yet.
He calls upon his minions to snow upon Father Fall's
Colorful Children

Sister Spring, the peaceful one, suggests a compromise
If Father Fall is allowed six more weeks
Sister Spring will give up six weeks of her time to Brother Winter.
Both agree and an accord is drawn up.
Peace is here again
And Love is in the Air.
