A Poem by sencha

rain descends
artist washes the canvas in grey
a moving curtain
before green trees and pale sky
a flickering, a glimmering
leaves dip under infinitesimal weight
spring up and bow again
streaks of silver
they fall, they fall

a constant sound
ceaseless, soothes
calms even when loud
countless water fragments in motion
all at once and each alone
it is a living sound
the breath of a large strange organism
steady and liquid and foreign

the smell, familiar
even before the first drop
both fresh and musty
lingers on the pavement
fills the air with something
indescribable feeling
calm, melancholy, comfort

caress of the rain
dampening, an enveloping mist
frizzes hair, moistens skin
drenching, a presence
rivulets down skin
hair slick and straight
clothes adhere to body
walk through it, unprotected
feel like an imperfect god

and the thunder it comes
it menaces
distant, close
fear, a thing unknown
a primal instinct repressed
laugh, free, dance in the lightning
senses revel
skin cold, blood hot
squint upwards and sing
oh, to ever be thus shielded
