Us On The Train.

Us On The Train.

A Poem by Serena Clara

I saw Us on the train today.

You and I.
Almost a year past the events that put us there.

She looked at his melting eyes,
not unnerved, just ignorant.
She mouthed words of comfort... or confrontation;
It was difficult to tell.
Sporadic, clean tears neatly don her face,
as she sees the steaper road ahead.
Meanwhile, in the eyes of the Belittled,
nothing is present in the She-shaped hole.
He is broken.
She is in denial.
There is no question about their love for each other
and the space between them is fogged by bonds,
but she sees seeds and buds for growth,
where he lies naked in desert.

I want to scream, 'Look what you are doing to him!'
I want to shake him and tell him to tell the truth.
I want her to stop laughing and resolving the unfinished,
while he dangles from a thread, hopelessly giggling with her.

I can see their future.
Falling together.
But she falls longer, because she could not see the cliff ahead.

I saw Us on the train today.
