Smile and Wave

Smile and Wave

A Poem by Scott Fogel
"

You must help yourself before you can help others.

"
Priorities untended
Lacerations unmended
Tragedy struck
Still we've all pretended
It's warranted to smile

It's a powerful thing
Human emotions
The entire world has changed
Due to the notion that
We need to smile

Today I walk the Earth
Today I still see
An astounding abundance
Of conscious life in misery
There's an endless famine
That we can not satisfy
Still
Life incessantly multiplies

Please do not take offense
To what you see on
My side of the fence
We all share this turbulent sea
We all say we care but
We all live on different boats
Let the waves sweep the others away
No longer focused on their rusted hull

We have our own boat to worry about
Its floor is breached
The dense saltwater creeping in
Don't just stand there and watch
Do something you damned dolt
Look at the rocky bottom
Look at those who have sunken
Make your choice
All the tools are aboard
Now fix your f*****g boat

Set your sail
The gale is finally here
No need for a lighthouse
You need only follow the stars
Find your own way home

It is true that every trouble we experience in our lives is ours alone. No two stories are the same. We are all lost at sea without a compass. On the bright side that gives us purpose. Where we do not have a direction, we can make our own. To conquer the turbulent seas of life in the pursuit of happiness. Along the way we meet others who have fallen off their boats or crashed that we give refuge too. I love the scheme of this poem. It puts the mind into a perspective that most do not consider. Thank you for sharing.
