Half Given

Half Given

A Poem by .:Arianna:.

The heart
will always
keep beating.
Sometimes fast,
sometimes slow.

She can take
any pain,
any cheating.
She will
never know.

The soul
will tear
little by little.
But it will hold.

The skin
will share
a scar or two.
For it's been told,

the eyes
will soon forget
the eyes they
do not see.

The hands
will go on working
in this field,
every summer,
every grain
will be gathered.

The feet
will keep walking,
forward.
Sometimes shaky,
sometimes numb.

But what,
poet,
tell me,
what must I do
with your letters,
the countless letters
and stories
pinned on my wall ?

The promises,
the consolations,
the oaths...
For these are the only link
between me
and remembering you.

For though you came,
you never passed,
you didn't throw a glance.
And when I looked
once more,
just a letter
was added
on my wall.

A letter sealed.

A life, long lived,
a love, half given.

A wonderful, heartfelt piece of artistry :)

Call me nutty, but this reminded me of the band Genesis, not sure if that was where you wanted to go. But the images and wording made me think of that band.

Nice job.

Thank you very much :) I'm half Dutch, so I understand exactly what you mean ...thank you again for your kind words.

Oh dear, this is so rich, and beautiful, I feel the Dutch way you shared simplicity in your poem, full of honesty, and rich word choice. A brilliant one! I have goosebumps...
