Nocturnal Monsters

No sleep again last night

though nearly 12 hours

I lay in my bed

 

Each time one visited

I became more

exhausted

 

Why can't you let me sleep?

For one night, is all I am asking

 

You insist on bringing back

dreaded memories

and laughing at my pain

 

I hate you!

please just let me slumber

In a peaceful way

 

I'm losing

my functioning skills

and my mind is forever haunted

 

Images once only stalked

the halls of my mind at night.

Now walk freely during the day

 

When did these nocturnal monsters

learn how to brave the light?

Am I to be tourmented forever?

 

Why can't you let me sleep

let me slumber

let me dream

 

For one night only

is all I am asking.
