The Raven and Its PackA Poem by Seumas MitsunariA quick little poem I threw together today...The Raven and Its Pack By Seamus Mitsunari The Raven flies overhead, The Pack flies through the forest. The Raven spots its prey, The Pack snarls and prays. The Raven calls upon deceit, The Pack calls upon the Raven. The Raven corners the prey, The Pack enters the cage. The Raven lies upon a perch, watching, The Pack circles its prey, snarling. The Raven looks on with a pair of onyx eyes, The Pack stares, unblinking, with a legion of amber eyes. The Raven’s call initiates violence, The Pack’s claws and fangs are bared for the fight. The Raven’s call adds a distraction for the Prey, The Pack slowly wears down the poor, beautiful, beast. The Raven leaves its perch, The Pack backs off. The Prey is confused and weak, The Raven gives one final caw, And the Prey is dead. The Pack laughs in merriment, The Raven looks on in silence. The Raven approaches the corpse, The Pack grows silence in reverence for their ebony leader. The Raven looks upon the defiled, perverted corpse of its prey, The prey’s dead, blue eyes stare endlessly into an abyss the Raven seeks to, in vain, understand. The Pack looks on as the Raven waves its feathered hand over the prey’s eyes, closing them. The Raven lowers its head in reverence, and takes a solemn piece of meat before returning to his perch. In the Raven’s wake, the Pack is quiet, The Pack remembering the Raven’s teachings. The Pack looked to their Alpha, who looked solemn, The Alpha, who had been deep in prayer, had missed much of the merriment. The Alpha found himself moved to song, and began a dirge, And the Pack joined in. The Raven looked on, who hidden from sight, Joined in for the chorus. © 2015 Seumas Mitsunari |
