Children Of The Memory

A Poem by Shayla Sayer

CHILDREN OF THE MEMORY

They smile
and tell such pretty lies
they know your hatred is palpable
they can feel your heated eyes.

but--they know not what has caused it
though they know they did something wrong
only Children of The Memory
they have so few reasons to be strong.

what memory is uncertain
but they reflect a time of old
they cringe behind forgotten words
in a place where individuality is bought and sold.

Children of The Memory
the tears stream down the face
of those who judge--for the judged have passed on
leaving only glimpses of a better place.
