Unbroken Bonds

Unbroken Bonds

A Poem by Moonlight
"

This is a tale of two brothers...

"

This is the tale

Of two brothers.

A tale that seeks the love

Of every reader out there.

And the tale goes like this…

Two brothers born in

A family known for ranks

Elite and courageous

Was their clan.

The older brother like

No other prodigy,

The village had ever seen.

An epitome of kindness.

An embodiment of peace.

Loving his family,

Protecting his village,

And smiling at his younger brother,

Was all his life seemed to be.

The younger one,

Following his footsteps,

Happily, while holding his hand.

Step by step, closing the gap.

Then what could have separated the two?

Compelling the younger to spill

The blood of whom he used to look up to?

Forcing him to soil his hands,

And, disgrace his existence,

As the killer of his own brother?

This is a tale of vendetta,

Of anger and frustration,

And above all,

A tale of love and sacrifice.

The twisted minds of

Those claiming power,

Forgetting their responsibility,

That came with the authority.

Caught between duties and principles,

Tired of explaining to his kin,

That a coup d'état was not a solution,

The elder of two shouldered the burden,

Of massacring his clan.

Accepting the title of disgrace,

And slaughtering everyone

To stop the war.

But to his younger,

He couldn’t do the same.

Begging the leaders to have mercy,

On his kid sibling,

And exchanging his own happiness

With his safety,

He left everyone,

And joined hands with loneliness…

However, is this the end of the tale?

Does the younger brother

Keep living in ignorance?

Governed by lies,

And driven by resentment,

He swears to redeem

the honour of his clan,

By annihilating his own elder brother.

And one day,

He does find him.

That day marks the end of his chase…

And his thirst for revenge

Is quenched by his brother’s blood…

So, does the tale finally reach its destination here?

With the younger brother

Living in the satisfaction

Of avenging his clan?

Oblivious to the fact that

His precious brother,

Now, no more than a lifeless corpse,

Was driven into a corner

And forced to chose between

Two options…

Both of which were wrong?

No, that’s not how the story ends…

When the truth unravels,

The mystery of his actions

Filling the missing pieces.

And answering all unanswered questions…

It holds the younger brother

In a cage of guilt and remorse…

Regret and grief

Reigning in every thought

His mind weaves…

And when memories come back,

Floating, making their way

Into his numb conscience,

He see his brother once again,

An epitome of kindness,

An embodiment of peace,

Smiling back at him,

A warm smile and gentle eyes…

His hands find their way

To the blade that hurt his sibling.

Piercing its sharpness,

Right through his beating heart,

Smiling right back at the

Smiling face of his deceased brother…

Realising that all the pain and agony he felt,

Was nothing but a lie…

So, in his last moments,

He holds onto the one thing

That he knows is true…

The bond his brother shares with him

One filled with kindness and love

And purity and severity…

His last hope of forgiveness

His home…

This is the story

Of bonds stronger than words

And love greater than life.

A tale of two brothers

Who die for each other…

This tale has no end,

For it keeps living eternally,

Etched into the core of our hearts,

Yes, this is a tale of bonds…

That remain unbroken

Even through the ravages of time….
