The Changed Phase

I used to be there,

Where they are now

I used to be there,

And they used to applaud.

Freedom, dignity,

Respect, liberty

They weren’t merely words for me,

They described me.

Honour, pride

They used to be mine.

But life’s only a circle.

There’s always someone to take your place,

There’s always someone to change the phase.

I have to say, those final three lines are quite thought-provoking. I thought that the "life's only a circle" idea would be expanded upon in more depth, but it's left very open-ended, which is cool. The idea of someone taking your place and "changing the phase" made me think of a clock or the cycles of the moon. The ambiguous way that this ties into the ideas mentioned earlier in the poem is very interesting. Great work!
