Friends I Had When I Was 10

Friends I Had When I Was 10

A Poem by Sid

I miss the friends

I had when I was ten

When dreams were big

And troubles small

Heart doodled notes

And 3 hour phone calls

Double dares and pinky swears

Deepest secrets always shared

It was always ‘friends forever’ then

I miss those friends when I was ten.

But friends are lost and left behind

In life there is no rewind

We become adults

The truth we find

Dreams fade away

Life gets in the way

Doctor bills, prescription pills

Can’t come today, the kids are ill

But next time, I can’t wait

So tangled up in our own lives

We don’t realize until it’s too late

The friends we have now and then

Are not the same as when we were ten.

No one told us when we grow

That the world leaves us on our own

And deep inside, we are all alone

But I store my memories of days back then

I had the greatest friends when I was ten

So true. What an apt poem. I miss my friends too. And had the chance to meet up again with some of them - and sad to say they're not the same. When people grow apart it can sometimes make us totally different people - something we have no control over. Still I hope one day, there would be a common ground and a common time for old friends to be young again. The only other alternative is to keep making new friends.

Great poem and very true. It seems rare for people to make it into adult hood with those same friends, but when they do its for life whereas friends I've made in adulthood kind of come and go. I thought this poem was really special. It had such a nice easy flow to it. Great job!

Ahhh, to be ten again would truly be a gift from heaven; I love this! Thanks for the reminder of the beauty that can be when we are young
