Inevitable

Inevitable

A Poem by Sabriya A.R
"

Inspired and written for a friend.

"

So we scroll through pictures of different faces uploaded by people our age,

And they all somehow resonate a sort of desperation.

We type in letters that shouldn’t be arranged like that at all.

And we receive notifications that too easily grab our attention,

As we gaze at screens that takes the color in our eyes away.

The melodious noises in our ears are deafening,

Though there’s something strangely addicting about that.

There’s a string of words rolling out our mouth,

And a low buzz that pleads us to cut the string; we can’t.

Silence is unfamiliarity to people like us,

It’s too quiet to ignore the angry voices in our heads.

There’s a cage filled with people who are trying to flee,

They reach for the sky and ache from reaching.

Some are trying to escape their lives, and some, themselves.

In a constant traffic we are supposed to find ourselves,

Through silence and shouts, and insults and compliments.

We relate to random posts and grow obsessions

With people who can’t save us,

And people who won’t save us at all.

We’re in a permanent high of relief and addiction,

Addicted to things that deceive us quietly.

We long for people, who’d destroy us willingly,

And disregard people who helplessly adore us.

And it’s times like these,

Where our hearts are begging to be cuffed,

To be ruined and to be shattered.

Because any pain is better than the one right now.

Our minds linger on controversial items

As we think of how much easier it’d be if we used them.

'

Our feelings are never let out,

And our souls are numb to any more abuse.

We only cry on the nights when we see the stars,

And rainy days so we aren’t the only ones letting water fall.

And even though we are confused bodies,

Living in a world of hatred and ignorance,

We will remember to smile, for happiness is inevitable.
