Mommy I forgot to say “I love you”
Before I headed to school today
Daddy I didn’t kiss you on the cheek
Before I went away

Teacher I couldn’t show you my work
The poem I worked so hard to write
And I couldn’t feed the classroom pet Joey
But I guess that’s alright

Dearest friend I’m sorry
I won’t be able to play with you at school
And I can no longer go to swimming class
Over at the city pool

I promise I looked both ways
Before crossing the street
But a car came speeding towards me
And its bumper and I did meet

He was drunk and couldn’t see straight
And because of him my life was taken away
But I forgive him and I hope you’ll be okay
And I’m sorry that there are things I won’t get to say
