The Parable of the Frog

The Parable of the Frog

A Poem by Sylver

time slows for no man;
so you want to be no man

peel away the flesh and the bones,
pare back your very soul -
maybe then it will end

what is it they say about abuse? there's a frog,
and if you dump the frog into boiling water
it jumps out

but then they put it in cool water:

it stayed,
and ever so slowly they turned up the heat.

the frog doesn't notice 'till it's far too late
and you're left to wonder
why they thought this was okay to do

-

years later you're in college.

the assignments are fine.

then they start coming faster, and you make a fatal mistake -
that paper can wait until tomorrow,
right?
