The Ebb and Flow

The Ebb and Flow

A Poem by Justin Tobey
"

This poem was inspired by a recent trip to the beach on a cloudy day.

"

The seas churn,

Crashing against the sandy shores.

Though the grey waters reflect the sky,

The splashing waves hold some

Of the green hue of pure ocean.

Moist, salty air

Sprays forward, spreading the influence

Of the stormy sea's spirit.

It fills the atmosphere for miles around,

Displaying the ocean's true dominance.

Far away,

Rocky cliffs rebound the waves

As they erupt in a misty wall of spray

Up over the black stone.

Constantly, land and sea battle.

Another gust

Whips up the unstoppable waves,

Displaying the power of the ebb

And flow of the pure tide:

Pushing and pulling the water.

This was beautiful and a unique portraying of the ocean. The idea of a constant battle between land and sea is epic and shows the ocean - which is usually written as calm and beautiful - in an entirely new, yet darker, light. Your description captured the stormy ocean and skies perfectly and was quite rewarding to read. Great job! =)

I have a true affinity to the moon, the ebb and flow of the waves and the ocean itself. These elements speak to me on many levels.

You wrote a beautiful piece here, Justin, and I am going to feature you as a writer, on my group page.
