The Stone

The Stone

A Poem by Justin Tobey
"

This is a description of labradorite, and beautiful stone that I recently bought at a farmer's market. Like the one in the story, it broke, but I still keep both the pieces.

"

In the gem, a light flickers.

Its crystalline essence

Shows both the surface

And the smoky depths.

Glowing tones of blue,

Green, and orange

Shift and move like fire.

A dim spot shows

That something's true self

Can only be seen in the perfect

Light and angle, just like

The iridescent circle

That disappears

To the casual observer.

The crack along the side

Adds mystique and magick.

It proves that even the most

Beautiful things have flaws;

Flaws which make them

Even more spectacular

To truely behold.

The deep stone cracks

Into two separate parts

Like the two sides of everything:
Positive and negative.

However, even the fragile,

Broken state cannot hide

The deep essence that remains.

Such beautiful and in depth description of a stone is new to me in reading but one I am in awe of as I have a grand collection. They truly do have their marvels, their mystique and their magick - treasure it always. Well done. Thank you.
Light,
Siddartha

Excellent as always, how you added magick and showed depth in your poem. Oh and is that the shiny, oval, black, blue, and green rock that was broken?
