Sky Island

Sky Island

A Poem by Justin Tobey
"

This poem is a description of my "happy place." : ) I thought it would be fun to express the ideas I had in poem form, and it was!

"

I pass between a barrier.

It separates night and day,

Good and evil, light and dark.

Through fire and water, I fly.

Flashing opalescence swirls

In a maelstrom of peaceful chaos.

I rise beyond the flashing lights

To a world all my own.

A secret island among the clouds

Beckons to me, its elusive beauty

Clouding my desperate thoughts.

Air, water, earth, and fire join.

It flies like a valley uprooted

With dark, healthy soil

Clinging to its roots

In the endless sky.

I rise up from a pool of clear water,

Which holds the calling brilliance.

Around me, trees form a circle

To guide and protect my soul.

They whisper entrancing secrets

Of wisdom and light

That only the trees know

In their infinite knowledge.

I stand in the middle

Of overlapping circles

Of stone, tree, water,

And limitless life.

I really like this a lot. Isn't the "happy place" wonderful? Part of me wants to stay there forever, but the smarter part of me knows that it would lose its magic if it became everyday.
