Art

A Poem by Justin Tobey
"

This was inpired by a picture I recently drew.

"

My hand sweeps back and forth,

a trail of dark blue settling behind.

Indigos, purples, and a hint of magenta

sprinkle to the paper.

I smear them across in dark sweeps

and reach for a brighter chalk.

Sky blue and indigo trails

swirl like currents of lightning

from a dark, endless sky.

Rippling colors and textures

coat the page in flowing magnificence.

I blow softly on the chalk-covered page

and a light layer of swirling, colorful dust

floats down like a miniature snowfall

to the oaken, glossy table.

Smiling, I hold up my finished masterpiece.

With an exaggerated flourish,

I sign my name and seal on the back.

Setting it gently aside, I pick up another blank paper

and begin again...

This is truly wonderful. It absolutely captures the essence of what it is to pastel or chalk a work and then grab a new, blank page and continue to work as your muse has grasped you. I recently spent three days making 20 new pastel works. I was surprised at how deft I became in such a short period of time but the time had come - I hadn't been drawing in some time. Thank you. This is going in my favorites.
