Beyond Writer's Block

Beyond Writer's Block

A Poem by Justin Tobey
"

I finally noticed that my vast imagination has slowly shrunk these last two or three years... :( I'm working on rebuilding it to its former splendor.

"

Where have the ideas gone?

I experience something new

beyond mere writer's block,

but a creative damming

for the past three years.

Inspiration that could once be found

in the smallest and most mundane things,

is lost, veiled behind the drama and pressure

of everyday life.

Stories and magic

that once flowed forth unstoppably

have reduced to a mere trickle,

funneled through intelligence

and tainted by use.

What was once for my own enjoyment

has been put to work, willing or not.

I no longer stare at my ceilings,

imagining the vast, elven people

that could live in the valleys

of sheets and blankets

sprawled on a bed.

Perspectives and views

shrink behind the constant rush

to think great thoughts,

as more and more creativity

is lost to the gaping hole in my mind.

Well written poem. Writer's block gets the best of us sometimes. Keep writing and this poem was wonderfully inspiring to me. Thank you for sharing. Debileah
