Red Line

Red Line

A Poem by kaycee

these lines blur,

you smudge them well.

you drew them once,

soon after we fell

together.

i try to read them,

but they've faded so

that only you

can tell me what they mean.

because what it seems to

me is but a dream,

a nightmare of what's not,

what could be happening.

now i'm not drunk enough to stumble from bed,

to follow these lines,

erase the weight of their invisible chains,

the ones that turned us red.

i wish they'd haunt you instead.

i still read this one often. and love it.
will you make me a printed copy.
i'd like to frame it in my room as a monument to my dear friend.

The idea of being haunted by the lack of understanding is an idea that haunts me, quite so. This particular work will touch different people in different ways depending on where they are in their lives, depending on how they think and live, and depending on how open they are to receiving what is being said.

It seems so unfair at times, really, if you think about it for a moment. They are not your lines, they belong to another, yet they have set them upon you, left them to haunt you... one could only begin to imagine all the tones of voice that could be used when wishing they would haunt them instead of you...
