Sometimes...

Sometimes...

A Poem by SM Davis

I sit and remember all the times we've shared

how we shared tea, and sat on the porch swing

we rode horses on the shore and stayed up late

talking until our eyes closed against our will

I think of all the obstacles we've had to overcome

and the arguments we had over stupid little nothings

and then spent more time than we had apologizing for

all the things we said that we didn't mean

I think of how things could be different

if we lived in our own little world...how little

things could mean the same to you and me

if we had fewer challenges to overcome

Once we believed nothing but the best

about each other and the outside world

and somewhere along the way all that changed

we became doubtful and bitter...

Now we sit and wonder how long it will be

before the worst that we feared comes to light

and we wonder if the next words on the screen

will be the ones that break each other's heart

we say the words I love you, but it seems

that lately those words are more a string

to keep each other holding on rather than

to give the other wings to fly

sometimes...no matter how much you love someone

the words I LOVE YOU just aren't enough and we find

that the time has come to say I love you...but...

I love me too...

and...

I can't love me and

love you too.

the love we shared will always be

a wonderful thing to look back on

but the pain and doubt are too much to bear

as much as I love you and it causes me pain

sometimes...

love isn't enough.

Yes. I wonder what you are doing now and if you look at my picture and think of me. We can still go to the little world and perhaps see each other there without knowing the other is there watching. Sadness is the other part of love. Sadness is always part of love. Loving someone is never, ever wrong and sometimes it catches on a snag on your sweater, holding you in place for a time. Sometimes, always it changes and it is the storm again that blows it away from its anchorage. sometimes we have to sail back a while before we find something that can be loving. But it is always worth it to try because you would not be the person you are if you did not try. For then we have lost nothing only gained a greater understanding of the nature of love.
Love never dies or goes away. It blows around like the branches of the willow I can see now. Love is always more than saying I love you. you are saying also I must love some part of myself also and so I love myself. Love is allowing the other part of you to grow and move gently away always knowing that there is a place, somewhere and there is should you wish it.
By the way you have the same IQ as me or I have the same as you. Does that say anything? http://www.writerscafe.org/writing/Ken%20Simm/314492/

Heavy is the heart that wrote this piece. We often find ourselves asking Are you the person I need or merely the person I want. The difference being we may want something or someone but that is not exactly the thing or person we need. We need a partner that will stand beside us through thick and thin to the bitter end. But to often we allow ourselves to become blinded by the things we desire or lust after. I like that this piece made my mind kick into over drive digging deeper into the meaning behind the words. Life is a journey of self education and we must learn the lessons of life in order to understand our place in the universe.

Well Done!!!!!!!

Sad but true... sometimes the obstacles we face in love can make us stronger but it can sometimes put a strain between us that is just much and the foundation can't be repaired... very nicely done.

Powerfully deep write, my friend, and yes, often saying "I love you" isn't enough... we need more to back it up.

True. I hope that wasn't directed at anyone in particular. Well written.

Sometimes saying "I love you" isn't enough. In my opinion, we've misused this beautiful expression to the point that it has become a clich. True Love is everything in a relationship, from the public to the private, the casual to the intimate, the little and the big, the said as well as the done, the actions and reactions. I believe that true Love will always find a way.
One reads the sincerity of emotion and depth of thought in this tender but sad write and I hope that true Love will find a way.
Thank you for inviting me to read this heartfelt write.
