Unspoken Pain

Unspoken Pain

A Poem by Kathleen Burlas

In silence I can feel the pain
Thinking just how vague it is
I hug my trembling knees
As tears fall on my cheeks

I shouldn't have looked at you
Or should have just pretended
Like I blind girl passing by
Not seeing the painful truth

With you I become transparent
Like a fool you bend me
You melt my very soul
Leaving me with a naked heart

By just looking at the sky
I get sad with your smile
Knowing the sad reality
That they're not mine to take

I shouldn't have listened to them say
Such words that stab my heart
In it's fragility it shatters in silence
As those words prick my ears

But I know I'll stay the same
Stand here waiting for you
Hoping for you to realize
That it's me who loves you true
