Life is a Journey

Life is a Journey

A Poem by Godwin Snow

Some days it’s raining

The drops splash on my windowpane

The drops amplify my pain

And I think back on those days long ago

Standing on a bridge, ready to let go

Someone said they cared

I guess that’s why I’m still here

When it rains I cry

But I can see the city through my watery eyes

The pain of the past lets me know

I still have so much farther to go.

This is not a happy poem, but neither is it one of resignation. The speaker is in some emotional pain, but does remember being once on the brink of self destruction when the care shown by another saved him. That incident seems to sustain him now, and though he admits the past still troubles him, does not appear to be in despair. Indeed, where there is life, there is hope.
