Yesterday Is Still Heavy

Yesterday Is Still Heavy

A Poem by Stefon Napier

Yesterday came and fell
But I sleep in the worst kind of way
 dreaming just ahead of hell

I live a life claimed by no one
Though all the cities are anchored by heroes
There's nothing to keep me from slipping.

I cry uselessly by the waterfall I used to keep regret down

In the mornings besieged by dew drop silence
I sign
Wondering what I am against the infamy of my own mind.

There are many battles we fight without weapons. I like the militaristic metaphor you use here. I thought that this line packed a powerful punch:

I cry uselessly by the waterfall I used to keep regret down

I really liked this poem, it was very well written. It was short and to the point but was full of imagery and emotion.

"Yesterday came and fell But I sleep in the worst kind of way dreaming just ahead of hell" "I cry uselessly by the waterfall I used to keep regret down" I really like these two lines the sort of sealed it all up even from the beginning you feel a connection to this piece and almost like you know the author. Well done!

You reminded me of my youth all those years ago. I agree about the waterfall line. MY favorite in the piece.

I like the way Stefon breaks the phrases, for example in the last tercet, and like very much the waterfall
line, which I had to read twice, then liked a lot !

This is a nice poem as it explains how you are trying to fight the thoughts of your mind.
