Earthquake

Earthquake

A Poem by Soren

The earth breaths, it shakes, and heaves

Its belly sinks, breaks, and shrinks

Its chest lifts, falls, and shifts

It can spring, it crawls, a living thing

I have been in an earthquake once, dear Soren. It was 5.2 on the Richter Scale and it felt like there was indeed, a fiend shaking the earth from within. It went on for 40 seconds only yet caused plenty of destruction in my city at that time. Had it gone on longer than that, there would have been a calamity. Your words make the reader feel the upheaval.
My prayers are with those in the catastrophic centres of the recent earthquake in Turkey and Syria. May God touch them all.

You can not begin to imagine the horror of the ground shaking and opening up beneath your feet and swallowing buildings, cars and people. A living
monster indeed. My thoughts and prayers along with so many others are with the people of Syria/Turkey who find themselves in this catastrophic nightmare. Thank you Soren for posting.

I'm shaking and heaving and falling and lifting with every breath!
Yes, the Earth is alive, and not just for the taking, she's in need of care just like all living things.
Excellent, Soren!
