Old closet

Old closet

A Poem by Soren

Folded discreetly and tucked away
Memories piled neatly of a bygone day
Frayed dreams of a forgotten dance
The pale sunbeams of a faded romance
A pair of hopes tattered, split and torn
Our bath soaps, a faint fragrance once worn
Postcards of desires never traveled
Embroidered patched love ever unraveled

My closet is a mess...so many undone things hanging in it, strewn across the floor.
I have been taking a lot of them to Goodwill figuring someone else might be able to use them.

You are welcome Soren.
At first I thought the closet was a metaphor for a place in memory, but in fact it may be a real closet. There are things in it which activate memories of a relationship that was promising but which failed in the end. It is probably better not to visit this closet too much. Let the past be the past and leave it alone.

Dear Soren
Vivid memories of yesteryear, clearly and lovingly portrayed here....so many of them, so personal, so lovely....it is truly keepsakes of love, adventure, and objects so meaningful to you..."our bath soaps, a fragrance once worn"... the intimacy of this line is wonderful....and I love the rhyme as well...
Bravo!

Thank you so much for your read and kind words they are appreciated
All those shared "sugar packets" left a lasting taste on your tongue, and the "faint fragrance" still near when they intrude... All of it hurts. And all of it makes the masks we wear...

A cute and short write here..:)

Folded discretely and tucked away.....some good imagery of clothing and life here...

My favourite line is:

Our bath soaps, a faint fragrance once worn

Hiii Soren!! Wonderful rhyming!! Well done!! This poem paints up quite the vivid picture as I took it for clothes once worn. How a piece of clothing has a story to tell, I'm never gonna look at my clothes the same. Thanks for sharing!!

Thank you so much Kady for the read and interpretation it is most appreciated.
The opening line sets a solid tone as to the reverence and the esteem given to the contents of the old closet. Such a wonderful way to introduce and unfold such a powerful short poem. Brevity's compression brings a coiling spring work with which to catapult images and emotion. Much enjoyed Soren.🕊️🙏🏻
