A Storm

A Storm

A Poem by Emjai
"

Madding logic for a somewhat sane patient

"

Four by four

Two by two

Why must I be stuck in this

empty white room?

_

Mad as they may call me

I can behave

But the people in white

never let me have a say

_

Though I can be good

I won’t be tonight

There’s electricity in the air

That says I will be gone after twilight

_

So with a skilled swipe of the key

Disguised as a trip over the pasty sentry

I slip out into the painted meadows

And drift into the giant sea of greens and yellows

_

Calm as I am now

it will not last

For when the coming storm

Has reached its full rage

My mental barriers will fall

And the true beast escapes its cage

_

The heavy rain swallows my body whole

yet the beast takes no mind

I can see through my own eyes

But it’s the beast who is in control

_

At the first sound of thunder

It makes it’s move

With a banshee shrill

It goes after the slick grass in a sunder

_

The moist air is filled

With battle-lusted bellows and pitched cackles

Closely followed with thunderous roars

As well as flashes of crackles

_

This terrifying monstrosity

Moves unpredictably

Fueled by bottled hate

Towards our waxen keepers

Portraying the ways to send them

To the reaper

_

Yet sooner or later

The rage wears away

And disappears along with the clouds

Now silvery gray

The beast retreats back into its cage

And I relish to my senses returning

To this fresh scent of fallen rain,

Of crisp night

For this moment

I am truly sane

With no disturbances, no pills

No rage

_

But being sane

I know I must go

Back to the hate

Back to the morbid doctors

who like to poke my brain

Back to steel cold gates

For it’s the one place

I will ever be safe

_

Retreating back

They stand there expectantly

Guarded heavily

For any unexpected attacks

Like the sea

They pull me back

to where I belong

A jailbird

With a broken song

_

One, two

Three, four

The storm is now

Behind locked doors
