![]() For the SoldierA Poem by Laura Sparkle
For the Soldier Writing for the mother who lost her son to the war, Fighting for something he believed in. Boot camp was a breeze, he ran his way through…. Second base, a true Hell on Earth. Writing for the father whose tears are expensive, His son is now struggling to fight the “enemy”, So proud of his boy, so terribly afraid… “He can do it!” Yes that he can. Writing for the family whose heart trembles, Watching the news anticipating pain. Praying and hoping to get another letter, A little “Fill me in” and an “All is well”… Writing for the lover, waiting for his call, His name imprinted on everything she does, Waiting for his arrival and hiding a surprise, Her lace lingerie ready for his comeback. Writing for the soldier who’s away from home, Missing Mom and Dad, and the family too. Longing for his girl, and wishing for a surprise, Counting the years, months, days and hours until his return. Writing for right now, because the pain is great…. Writing for the ones that do not regret. Writing for the ones who never forget.
