Death, My Friend

Death, My Friend

A Poem by SpiritFingers
"

All friendships must come to an end.

"
Death, my friend
and father
Inside the mother
who birthed me
a curse and legacy
now inside of me
in my flesh, my heart
and every breath
whispering:
'one more, one more'

and I ask him,
One more? Just one
please, one more?

Death, my friend
and brother
Walking my same path
in sun or rain or
freeway underpass
like a hand in my hand
in my shadow
with a kindly smile
whispering:
'someday, someday'

and I beg him,
Someday? Promise me-
not soon, but someday?

Death, my friend
and lover
Too often in my bed
the kitchen, the bus
and the bathroom mirror
mocking me, taunting
while in close embrace
like desperation
whispering:
'right now, right now'

until there is no question
but finally

an answer.

I didn't know whether to take this literally or metaphorically. I read it both ways a couple of times. The sign of a good write, that leaves it open to reader interpretation. I like this poem and I like your style.
