A Poem by Alexandra

Within the love
That we found in countless drunk nights
Trying to figure out why we hurt so bad
Reminiscing over old loved one's at local bars
Arguing in car rides on matters of love theory
And principles of leaving
I looked into your eyes multiple times
Trying to connect the dots to your actions and words
"I love you"
Well, I heard that a year ago
And the year before that.
Nothing sounds much different.

Heartbreak
After heartbreak
Led me to be this cold vessel
Pushing you away time after time
Vacating space at 3 AM
To find love in emo punk songs
Crying at my ignorance
While I was looking behind
Crashing into your front lawn
Yelling about how fucked things were
And, you took a flight to a different continent
To escape my brown eyes

What I didn't know:
My elder of 10 years
You love me like I'm your equal
Observing my actions
As I fell into pit after pit
Washing up after every drunk mistake
Complaining for a "re-do"
Writing poetry as fire cracker signals of SOS for his return
Draining slowly the self love I rebuilt
And, in just one moment, you filled all the missing holes:
To raise life
With me
"I love you and her"

And there is no greater thanks
I can give than:
"I love you, too"
