Childhood Memories

Childhood Memories

A Poem by Kristin

We all have those Childhood memories
Those "mommy don't leave me here!",school days
Early morning,"Don't forget your lunch sweetheart!"
With those little snacks and the "Have a good day!" notes on kitchen napkins
But at some point those little snacks in our lunch boxes
Become little blue pills
,That we pop like candy
All of the sudden the napkin notes
,well
They cease to exist
and those "don't leave me here!" school days
Become "I can't wait to get out of here.."
and lunch?
Well who needs to eat anyways?
I'm already filled up with alcohol and pills
and you can't forget the  thoughts
Oh the thoughts!
The ones that are hungry enough
To rip me apart piece by piece
And eat me up,starting with my mind
...and taking away my soul
Leaving behind this empty shell of a girl
That its already weathered away anyways

This is an emotionally striking piece...the resignation in the final lines is devastating...great work.

I particularly like how you speak in a present perspective about the past. It doesn't lean towards regret. More of . . . a nostalgia.

wow, as I was reading this I was thinking of my childhood days again, I wish I still had those but just like your poem I actually did replace it.
