Liberation

Liberation

A Poem by Kristin

Let me be free
In the world of liberating possibilities
I don't need a 5-9 job
To make me who you want me to be
Let me travel the world
And Feel the sheer wanderlust
Drop my duties
Of an organized life
Take the status happy
Good job
3 kids
A spouse
And a house to live in
Cause here thats all we really need
Isn't it?
Maybe I'm a little crazy
But I've been thinking maybe
I'd choose my version of happy
and I'd live that way instead
And while you waste to ashes
Trying to meet society's needs
I'll be in some unknown world
Washing away my worries
Either way we'll waste to ashes
And be one with the grasses
And I'm pretty sure
You aren't making much of an impact
At a 9-5 job til retirement either

This has a universal feel to it, making it very relate-able...I think everyone has these thoughts from time to time but you've brought them all together here with poetic flare...nicely done :)

Life ends in ashes. Nice one.

Your perspective reminds me of Sylvia Plath. She feared being stuck in a kitchen making food for her children and being restricted from work by the government. She downright despised it, actually.
As I always advise; determination is everything. If you want it badly enough, you'll get it.

I hear you. It's post-modern reflective; in a good way. It takes a certain kind of audience but, hey, I'm sure you've found a sample here and rest assured, they know it's an articulate commentary put into a delicate prose that fits well into that special place in our mental cupboards. The one right next to the "status happy." The muses embrace you, Kristin! :)

That's a definitely a pearl! 'And be one with the grasses', wonderful imagery. I love that part! Of course the poem in it's whole is very well written, vivid images and clear thoughts, tremendous flow of words! Well done!

Lovely poem Kristin.
(I learned something from this which everybody should be practicing it.
"I'd choose my version of happiness" .To be really happy you must define happiness on your own way not copying your neighbor or friend.
