Short Straw for the Living

twilight

the hours where 

dreams give birth

as hope slowly dies

 

struggling to make sense

one soul given

one taken

sacrificed by those

who gave belief life

 

 

Held briefly

A lifetime promised

Forever lasting

less than....

a deep breath

 

 

It began

A slow dance,

intermingled with

rock n roll

 

 

Wasted ambitions

softly wrapped 

Paired with unfulfilled 

desires and expectations

 

 

It wasn't always

just beyond 

A fairy tale reality

The sun did shine

as the stars danced

 

 

Before amber liquid

fueled and doused

a barren existence 

raised to lofty lows

greeted by cavernous highs

 

 

When hope beat 

richness swelled

defining poor as the richest

Life was worth the effort

it soared as they did

 

 

Beauty

surrounded each

we reveled in their existence 

Only forsaken eyes and cataract

hearts failed to remember

 

 

Through love

a life was brought

Through love

defeat joined two

forever with no reruns

 

 

They left

comforted by their despair 

survived in those

Who loved them

searching for reasons

Empty of meaning
