The Kandy Road

The Kandy Road

A Poem by 'stiltskin

A flight of fancy to mystical land,
in Arjun' chariot I crossed Ram's bridge
to that cinnamon isle of golden-grained strand
- tear of Mahabharata

On a palm-trellised beach I held her hand
where chattery children with pearl-studded smiles
and names as long as the ribboned sands
nodded eager incomprehension.

Elephant ride in an all-spiced grove,
cardamom, mace and vanilla pod scented,
healing balms of curry leaf and clove
for Ayurvedic remedies

Test of fate, far above sapphired sea
climbing up thru' mahogany-hung hills,
fellow flyers trust all to destiny
on that high road to Kandy
