What's In The Heart?

What's In The Heart?

A Poem by KAREN

Hatred gnawing vessels,

leaving pools of anger,

causing hollowness through and through.

Sadness flowing like an crimson red river

through every vein and pore,

beading up into tears of sorrow.

Pain slicing like blades,

cutting all lines to fulfillment,

leaving thick emptiness behind.

Happiness welling up the frown,

twisting it into laughter,

spilling joyful music through the lips.

Joy exploding like fire crackers,

in the depths of a soul,

sparking flashes of excitement into the air.

Peace quietly swimming around,

relaxing and calming every nerve,

filling all holes of loneliness.

Comfort sweeping out all bitterness,

sorrow, and anger,

leaving the greatest of all,

love.

Love pumping with the beating rhythm,

fighting away  impurities,

leaving nothing but healthy habits.

What's in the heart?

You explore and see

what you find.

Having had two heart bypass surgeries and with a third of it now missing, I was glad to see this story end happily. Hatred gnawing on my blood vessels---ouch!

This was a really interesting piece for me. It took me through a full range of emotions, each of which you expressed well, with great imagery and metaphor. Well done! One thing...I think you probably mean hollowness in that first stanza. Hallowed means holy or sacred and that doesn't seem to fit with the lines before it.

Every emotion the heart feels, placed before us, to see....good write!

I was more taken by this than many other of your works, as it begins in a dark place, then gradually works its way out. A few notes; I don't know what "hallowness" is; I think you may have meant "WELLING up", rather than swelling, "depths" is misspelled, and the right article (same sentence) should be A soul (rather than "an"). Minor flaws, to be sure. I like this as it demonstrates greater depth than I have seen previously.

Great work! You did an excellent job of taking us on a journey through the heart.

nice work...the heart can be filled with so many emotions...it is left to us as individuals to decide what we wish to keep within and what we wish to leave out of our hearts...

A fascinating walk through the emotions from the ugliness of hatred to "Comfort sweeping out all bitterness,//sorrow, and anger," ...a much better place to be.
Well done!
