Love Is, And Is Not

It's not always about the love

We think we deserve

They often say that's how it is

I think we seek the love

The love that feels familiar

For better or worse

It warms our heart

And ignites our souls

It's the way we first learned

Even if someone else comes along

They can't replace a feeling

The feeling of belonging

We fight and we struggle against this

We spend our lives trying to change it

Only to be brought back 

By the kind of love we tried not to let in

Maybe sometimes we can begin

To inch away from the struggle

Another failed love at a time

Taking the change one step at a time

A little less traumatic

A little less familiar

Until the love we are left with

Is the kind of love we deserve

The beauty of its depth

Finally reaching us at our core
