Say Good-bye

Say Good-bye

A Poem by John Stussy
"

Learn.

"

How can one describe

The heart’s desire

When that desire is for

What flows from the heart?

A need to feel the

Life cascading down

As the world slowly fades

In a quick blurring haze?

And more than that,

But the unwav’ring need

To correct a mistake

Twenty years and two weeks overdue

Overcomes any sanity

In order to quench mental calamity,

Cage every thought and emotion

In the impregnable prison.

Death’s arms are so desperate

She clings without cease.

A man who succumbs to this quietude

Can disturb nothing more in this world.

Dead men are already dead

When the crimson downpour starts.

The lesson of my kind is simple,

So learn it swiftly my friends:

Never neglect saying your good-byes,

For you won’t ever know when we disappear.

I like the message. The worst thing that could ever happen is for you to tell someone that you hate them- then they're gone the very next day, hour, minute, or even second.

And now I'll stray away from the morbidness and point out my favorite lines: "Overcomes any sanity, In order to quench mental calamity". Brilliant rhythm, flow.

A very interesting piece indeed. At one point it feels narrated from a suicidal point of view. It moves on to describinb someone else's struggle. In the end, it is certainly a lesson, although with the ambiguity of the majority of this poem I was hoping for the lesson to be a little more subtle. A nice read, anyhow.

oh John your poetry is always so meaningful. This like many other pieces will stay with me.
You're right. You just never know what may happen in the future to the one you care about.
So meaningful and Beautiful- from the heart.

Why do you do write these things when you know they get to me so deeply? Hmm? Why??
