The Time of Love

The Time of Love

A Poem by Iota

I have always been told that love

is ever lasting, and all powerful

as if, love is God himself manifested

in spirit to possess us inside, out

sure at first it feels that love

is a spirit over powering us

and we feel almost immortal

because someone loves us

if love is equivalent to God

than time is the antichrist

that brings darkness from light

to torment our souls forever

How is it possible for us

to love someone so much

that we feel unworthy

to have them in our lives

blessed to have met them

we endure sleepless nights

heart palpitations

sweaty skin

anticipation of hearing

their voice

spending an eternity

with them

and yet….

one year later

we prefer to spend time

with someone else

someone new

unknown…

we want more silence

from the one we love

than to communicate

with them past hello

we take more interest in

TV, work, writers café

than we do the person

living their life with us

How is this love?

or is love not everlasting

not all powerful

maybe it is

just an illusion

a mental drug

an escape

from the reality

of loneliness

Wow this is the first review for your poem and i am excited cause i am in love with this introspective write. It raises so many significant questions that ought to be asked..specially keeping in mind today's scenario.
There is one stanza which is very dear to me cause it is the question i have been asking myself after spending considerable time on online sites..*smiles..
we take more interest in

TV, work, writers café

than we do the person

living their life with us

How is this love?
I have often wondered how is it that a person tends to spend more time finding solace online in unseen faces..people never met before rather than spending more time with the person who is in proximity to them and has been so since many years trying to overlook each and every impending flaw in the bond.
The entire write is so very challenging..it looks at 'love' from a very broad perspective and simultaneously picks up at many dimensions of it and daringly explores them and all so very successfully. The stanza with which this ends is lovely and brings forth that one crucial question that is love but a remedy to loneliness.

disagree with you on this aspect ... these days the concept has changed . what people term as 'love' isn't love in the truest sense of the word . rather its just a kind of assurance that people want for themselves to ascertain that they are no longer alone (as you have rightly pointed out) ! true love always seeks his/her companion inspite of repeated denials , leave alone get bored in the process (i can say this with experience) . you have rightly brought out the emptiness in emotions these days
