Kanpus Life

Kanpus Life

A Poem by Kara Hadley
"

yes, the title is spelled correctly. -enjoy-

"

the water is Stagnant

no tides to Push

no undercurrents to Pull

I Bob

Up and Down

no movement

ship's Pass in the day

I am Surrounded by metal

Adaptable, Super-Amazing Metal

some are buoyant

others Refuse to sink

I want to be a Paperclip

none Shift their direction

some Ponder the possibilities

but none Do

no Safety doughnuts turned away

step right Up and See for yourself

I’ll Make any work

cross my heart and Hope to Fly

Far and Wide

I don’t lie to Thee

but Alas, oh sweet Miss Misery

I am Not Drowning

woe is Me

the water lends neither shoulder nor question nor dagger

pleading Eyes

mini-skirts and Perky B***s

the Little girl lost in a crowd

standing Still among the Private currents

Bubbles to Blobs

where is Her smile?

confused with Merging hearts?

did the Wind Man steal it?

with His wind dances

and streamer Hair

and what, Sweet Irony, is left of her love filled heart?

what has become of it?

taken Out to later be left at the Bottom of a vodka Bottle

with Her inhibitions

and Common sense runs free

crying with Three Degrees of separation

there’s No place like Home

Dorothy says

not Yours

yours has left me in my Mind’s Ship Yard

diving for Rubies

and Dodging tornadoes

BitterSweet Symphony of pens

why no pencils you ask, Mr. Popstar?

pencils are Not Permanente enough

as I wish To Be

I am an aspiring Wing Woman

with My wind dances

and streamer Hair

Immediately after finishing it I said to myself: That was Nuts.

It read very quickly for me which seemed to suit the frantic nature of the writing. I loved it. It was all over the place but still very coherent under the surface. Great job!

Favorite lines: "I want to be a Paperclip" and "Bittersweet Symphony of pens." Some great feelings expressed in this poem. You really made me feel as lost as the narrator. That's all, nothing to suggest. Good job!
